Unlocking the Digital panorama of Future

‘When Digital becomes Human’, the three-day conference witnessed a successful start yesterday and graduated into its second day for more interesting discussions and speeches by notable personalities. INFOCOM has always provided a platform that hosts a wide range of knowledgeable speakers from the private and public sector in India as well as stalwarts from all over the world. The second day of the summit fostered a gamut of discussions ranging from topics such as digital transformations across varied sectors, Eastern India as lucrative investment hub and tourism hotspots and the long run of the cyber era and its implications on many verticals.

The discussions in the second day of the Summit proceeded in two separate conference tracks – Technology Forum as the Plenary Track with Industry and State Focus and the CIO and Security Forum.

The Technology Forum kick-started with Mr. Ben Hammersley, Futurist, Author and Global Digital Leader. Ben is a presenter of BBC and Netflix TV series, Editor-at-Large of United Kingdom’s WIRED magazine and Inventor of the word “Podcast”. He seized the Spotlight Session discussing Life 3.0 along with host Mr. Ambarish Dasgupta, Senior Partner and Founder, Intueri Consulting LLP, to engage the audience on an insightful discussion on the impact of Machine Intelligence in the lives of humans in the coming years and how it will shape the daily lives. Will machines eventually outsmart us at all tasks, replacing humans on the job market or will AI help life flourish like never before or give us more power than we can handle.

The eminent thought leader’s able farsightedness enabled the audience and addressees to perceive the future in a whole new light. Mr. Ben Hammersley is noted as a world’s leading futurist. He has been working with corporations, governments, and elite individuals worldwide for more than a decade. Synthesizing cutting-edge research from multiple disciplines, he guides his audiences through the key lessons on how to work, live, thrive, and innovate in the coming years.

The session was followed by the Keynote Address on ‘Digital Transformation in Social Sector Projects – Touching Humanity with Innovation’ by Mr. Sumit Kumar Sinha, President, PMI West Bengal Chapter and Head – Project Management Competency Function, Ericsson India Global Services on how technology will successfully aid a project manager’s performance by monitoring and assessing it. He further went on to explain how it was up to the Project Managers to efficaciously use technology for smooth functioning of their work.

This was followed by a Keynote on ‘Realize and Accelerate your Transformation’ by Mr. Ripu Bajwa, Director & General Manager- Data Protection Solutions, Dell EMC India

Mr. KP Unnikrishnan, Senior Director & Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific & Japan, Palo Alto Networks spoke on the need for revolutionizing and innovating for supreme measure towards the protection of data in his Leadership keynote session on ‘Disrupting the Cybersecurity Status Quo’.

‘Digital Transformation in Healthcare’, an imperative topic in today’s time was addressed by Dr. Naresh Trehan, Renowned Cardiovascular and Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Chairman and Managing Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon of Medanta, The Medicity. The keynote stressed on making the healthcare system more dynamic and efficient in the country.

‘The Next Tech Wave’ was the keynote addressed by Mr. Meetul Patel, COO, Microsoft India.

Post lunch, the sessions of Day 2 of INFOCOM 2018 proceeded in two tracks. Track A being the Industry & State Forum and Track B being the CIO & Security Forum.

The first session of the Industry & State Forum was focused on ‘Tourism in Jharkhand’ addressed by Mr. Rahul Sharma, IAS, Secretary – Tourism, Government of Jharkhand.

This was followed an Industry address on ‘Leveraging the Power of Insurance for the New Age’ by Mr. A K Sharma, Regional Manager (Marketing), Zonal Manager in Eastern Zone, Life Insurance Corporation of India.

This was followed by a Keynote on ‘Travelling Trends for 2020’ by Dr. Suborno Bose, Chairman, International Institute of Hotel Management

The keynote address on ‘Tourism Opportunities in Bengal by Mr. Goutam Deb, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal, focused on the exquisite tourism opportunities the state has to offer. The session was followed by a session on ‘Bihar as an Investment and Business Destination’, by Mr. Rahul Singh, IAS,Secretary – IT, Government of Bihar.

The Industry & State Forum concluded with a panel discussion on ‘Promoting Innovations and Startups in Eastern India’. The eminent panelists for the discussion were Mr. Debashis Sen, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal, Mr. Rahul Singh, IAS, Secretary – IT, Government of Bihar, Mr. Sarvesh Singhal, IFS, Special Secretary – IT & eGovernance, Government of Jharkhand and CEO, JAP IT and Director – JSAC, Mr. Sagar Jagdish Daryani, Co- Founder and CEO, Wow! Momo Foods, Mr. Karma Bhutia, Founder & CEO, iShippo.com and Mr. Santosh Sharma, Bestselling Author ‘Dissolve the Box’ and Cultivator – M’ma Organic Farm and Ms. Chand Tulal Mazumdar, Head of Public Policy, Uber India and South Asia. The session was moderated by Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group. The panelists spoke at length on a holistic approach to develop and nurture start-ups and innovation hubs in Eastern India through effective incubation and mentorship.

The CIO & Security Forum took off with Mr. Jaspreet Singh, Partner – Cyber Security, Advisory Services, Ernst & Young LLP speaking on ‘Building a Cyber Resilient Enterprise’. He spoke on the evolution of cyber resilience and how it is rapidly gaining momentum.

The session was succeeded by a panel discussion on ‘Creating a New Standard of Trust in Business Transactions’ which was moderated by Mr. Arnab Basu, Technology Consulting Leader, PwC India. The panelists were Mr. Milind G. Mungale, Executive Vice President & CISO, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, Mr. Bidyut Kumar, CGM (Telecom), POWERGRID, Mr. Ashish Kalay, Group CIO, SREI and KF Group of Companies and Mr. Krishnenjit Roy, Vice President – Technology, BankBazaar.com.

The next session was addressed by Mr. Kshitij Mishra, Tech Evangelist, Avaya India. His keynote was on ‘Voice Impact in the Customer Journey’.

This was followed by a panel discussion that witnessed effective inputs and opinions on ‘Cyber Security and the Millennials’ from eminent panelists such as Mr. Brijesh Datta,EVP & CISO, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., Mr. Ramchandra Hegde, Vice President, Global Information Security and IT Compliance, GENPACT,Mr. Venkata Rao Damera, CIO, Emami Ltd. and Mr. Samit Ray, Chief Operating Officer, RICE Group and CEO, Adamas Digital. The session shed light on how millennials are at a risk of exposing confidential and crucial data by becoming the victim of clickbait articles that pose a threat to data security. The session was chaired and moderated by Mr. Harish Agarwal, Partner Ernst & Young LLP.

The concluding Keynote at this track was on ‘Digital Transformation: At the Intersection of Analytics and AI’ by Ms. Monideepa Bhattacharya, Customer Advocate, BRIDGEi2i Analytics Solutions

The second day of INFOCOM ended with two Plenary Keynote sessions. The first one was a Leadership Keynote by Mr. Mahesh Makhija, Partner and Leader – Financial Services Performance Improvement and Technology Consulting, Ernst & Young LLP, which was an informative one, serving as a prelude to how different verticals ought to prepare themselves for the ‘Next Technology Wave’. The session rightly stressed upon the changing future of technological landscape and the necessity of taking measures to adapt to this landscape in terms of working routines, organizational structures and norms. It essentially highlighted that rather than trying to adapt to new disruptive technology, organizations and governmental institutions should already begin the preparation for the next big change in technology.

The highlight of the day end was the session with Mr. Palani Mohan, Award Winning International Photographer, born in India, raised in Australia and now living in Hong Kong, who spoke on ‘Through the Lens’. While the first session was a futuristic take on the developments on the innovation front, the latter was an interesting take on the vertical of photography. Palani is the author of six books including his latest – ‘Wind, Water’. His work is part of the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London and his images have been shown widely including at the prestigious Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, France. He has already addressed about his work and photography around the world, including in the TEDx series and at the Asia Society in Hong Kong and New York. Palani has been recognised with awards including World Press Photo, Picture of the Year International, CHIPP, Communication Arts, and Sony International.
