WSO2 to Empower Startups in Developing Cloud Native Apps on Microsoft Azure with Choreo

WSO2 announced a collaboration with Microsoft to empower startups to develop cloud native applications on Microsoft Azure with Choreo, to strengthen the Indian startup ecosystem. This effort brings Choreo, WSO2’s innovative cloud native internal developer platform, to the forefront, offering startups in India complete access to cloud native app development resources, support, and technical expertise.

Cloud native app development is quickly growing in popularity due to the benefits it provides, but setting up and running cloud infrastructure is complex. These complexities are a deterrent to startups who are keen to adopt the cloud, but don’t have the development bandwidth to set up and run cloud infrastructure while also building digital products for their customers. This collaboration will provide the Indian startup community an invaluable toolkit to navigate the complexities of cloud native application development. It brings Choreo to the doorstep of startups across India, helping them to break down the barriers to entry in the cloud native app development space.

Choreo is built on top of Microsoft Azure, making it ideally suited for development teams that rely on the Azure cloud platform. Leveraging 30-plus Azure services, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Key Vault, and Azure DevOps, it provides a pre-integrated development platform on Azure, thereby simplifying cloud native app development, increasing developer productivity, and enabling customers to get their digital products to market faster.

“Choreo simplifies cloud native app development, offering developers and startups the essential tools and capabilities required to build and manage applications on Microsoft Azure, and significantly enhances developer productivity, accelerating the time to market for new products and solutions,” said Kanchana Wickremasinghe, vice president and general manager of the SaaS business unit at WSO2. “This will eventually lead to increased ROI and lower TCO.”

Choreo is already available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, streamlining the procurement, deployment, and management of Choreo on the Azure cloud platform. The primary target audience for this collaboration is India’s vibrant startup community. Initially, the focus will be on major cities in India, including Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai.

According to a PwC India report, funding in Indian startups fell by 36% in January-June 2023, primarily due to investors taking longer in due diligence processes. Early-stage deals accounted for 57% of total funding in the first half of 2023.

“This innovation by WSO2 on Microsoft Azure will bolster support and accelerate the concept to product journey for Indian startups by alleviating investment costs and offering essential support in navigating the competitive landscape, said Sangeeta Bavi, Executive Director, Digital Natives, Microsoft India. “As a longstanding committed partner to the dynamic startup ecosystem in India, we are delighted that WSO2 is bringing cloud native development capabilities closer to startups, to help them succeed in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.”
