Skye Air Mobility & SRL Diagnostics start delivery trials as drones take to Gurugram skies

The trial run series to expedite delivery of pathology samples successfully kicked off from Fortis FMRI Hospital to SRL Labs in Gurugram

Skye Air Mobility, a drone delivery logistics provider which recently joined hands with SRL Diagnostics, one of the leading diagnostic chains in India to transport pathology samples have started their BVLOS trial runs today in Gurugram as flights take wings from FortisFMRI Hospital to SRL diagnostics labs at Gurugram. These BVLOS trials in Gurugram will end on 11th April, 2022, followed on by Noida on 12th April, and shift base to Mumbai for further flights.

The trials will exhibit a faster supply chain for sample collection encircling urban, semi-urban and remote corners of the country using drone delivery technology effectively.

Throwing spotlight of day one of the BVLOS trial run, Ankit Kumar, CEO, Skye Air Mobility, said, “This is first of its kind in India, where deliveries are being done by drone from a Hospital to a Lab. It will be a 4 day trial in Gurugram and Noida, comprising of a total of 36 flights, each carrying pathology samples for SRL diagnostics. We expect to deliver a better Turn-around-Time (TAT) to SRL diagnostics thus enabling a faster/ optimized solution. We thrive on the success of our clients and I must say, SRL diagnostics has taken a deep approach towards this.”

Speaking on the successful trial run, Mr. Anand. K, CEO, SRL Diagnostics said “Using drone delivery, we completed the first successful pilot of sample transfer from Fortis FMRI hospital to our SRL lab at Gurugram. We are thrilled about the multitude of opportunities this presents in the near future. For the trial, we transferred 10 blood samples. We look forward to leveraging this technology to reduce sample transfer time and enable faster reports while also reducing the carbon footprint.”

Skye Air showcased 9 autonomous BVLOS flight lifting 5 kg of pathology samples from FortisFMRI Hospital to SRL Gurugram Lab, covering an Aerial distance of 3.8 Kms (10 kms by road).

The flights took place with Skye Air’s flagship product Skye Ship One, which can cover an aerial distance of 20 Kms. The BVLOS trials are aimed to strengthen the logistics of sample collection for SRL Diagnostics thus enhancing its service reach as it will be able to penetrate the sub-cities, semi-urban and remote areas.

These trial runs will result in commercial roll-outs in several urban and remote locations across India.
