Microsoft’s Digital Innovation Summit opens a dialogue on transforming India’s Public Sector with cloud, data and AI

Committed to accelerate the digitization of the public sector in India, Microsoft India announced the launch of the first Public Sector Digital Innovation Summit. The Summit seeks to bring together PSU leaders, government stakeholders, and technology experts on a common platform to discuss the tech transformation opportunity in India’s public sector enterprises. The Summit was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Shipping, among others.

Public sector enterprises around the world are using the power of technology to transform governance,  provide seamless citizen services and create efficient enterprises. The Summit opens a dialogue on the role of technologies like cloud, data and AI to help PSUs build resilience, drive innovation and grow at scale to serve citizens across the country.

The first edition of the Summit focused on the theme of Transforming the Workforce. Thoughts leaders from PSUs spoke about how their enterprises are leveraging technology to reinvent and create digital organizations of the future. Creating modern digital enterprises, leveraging technology to empower and skill workforces, driving innovation with cloud solutions and workplace automation were some of the themes discussed.

Speaking at the Summit, Navtez Bal, Executive Director, Public Sector, Microsoft India, said, “The Indian Government and the public sector ecosystem in India demonstrated tremendous agility and resilience during the pandemic. Technology helped maintain business continuity, and at the same time played a central role in enabling critical public services at scale. In line with the Digital India vision, PSUs in the country have a tremendous opportunity to transform with technology, creating billion scale platforms that drive economic, social and financial inclusion. We are excited to launch the Public Sector Digital Innovation Summit to explore how technologies like cloud, data and AI can play a role in building resilience, transforming operations and helping PSUs grow at scale. We look forward to working closely with state governments and public sector organizations in India to define the next chapter of growth and innovation for PSUs.”

The event saw panel discussions and fireside chats with participation from senior public sector officials including Virupakshappa Angadi, Chief General Manager for Digital Transformation & CIO at Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Ram Sahai, General Manager (IT) SPMICL , Gautam Kumar, Chief General Manager for IT at Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), Haritima Jaipuriar, General Manager (IT) RailTel Corporation of India Ltd,  Ramakrishna Y, Deputy GM (IT&ERP), Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. V Satheesh Chander Rao, Deputy DM (IT), Dredging Corporation of India.

Microsoft is deeply invested in the digital transformation of the public sector ecosystem in India and has been working closely with central and state governments to skill officials and deliver technology that accelerates their digital success.
